Gentrification of a Neighbourhood

Situation: Tenants of low-rise apartment buildings would be affected by the municipal Vision for gentrification of the waterfront area. Municipal By-laws were in place to protect residents if their building was demolished or renovated. A local service agency wished to examine awareness and opinions about the plans for the neighbourhood.
Method: The sample was developed through a reverse directory of building addresses to obtain telephone numbers; 106 telephone and 20 personal intercept interviews were conducted.
Outcome: The top-line report summarized opinions about the community as a place to live, and examined the sense of community belonging, knowledge about local activities, opinions of the By-law, potential personal involvement in community mobilization, and information needs and sources.
